Equipment #1 — Your body

When it comes to exercise equipment, most people overlook their body. Does it really qualify as equipment? You bet. Every time you do a pushup, sit-up, dip, squats, and lunges, you are lifting weight — the weight of your body.

Lifting free weights can cause damage if you don’t know how to use them properly. If you are overweight and out of shape these are exactly the type of exercises you need to begin with, and it doesn’t cost a thing — it’s like a free gym membership.

Equipment #2 — Your legs

Once of the most frequently used pieces of equipment in a gym is the treadmill. Guess what? You don’t need a gym membership or a treadmill. The best way to get your heart and lungs in shape is to start walking everyday and gradually add to your time on a daily basis.

Try this — warm up by walking in place for five minutes. Then develop a simple routine by combining walking, marching in place, side steps, jumping jacks, and imaginary jump roping. Switch from each activity every two to five minutes.

Use a kitchen timer or place a digital clock where you can easily see it, you can do each of these movements, timing yourself through each one. Go through your routine as many times as you can, gradually working up to thirty minutes to one hour per day. Continue reading
