South African Dagga Party aims for election

The leader of the Dagga Party of SA hopes to have his face on the ballot papers at next year’s national elections, it was reported on Tuesday.
Jeremy Acton was working to ensure that his party garnered the 500 signatures required to contest the elections,
He was still 200 names short and did not have a cent in the bank.
Acton told the newspaper there was great potential for his party because 35% of South Africans over the age of 13 smoked dagga.

He wanted to have the plant legalised and to unlock its economic potential.
“Cannabis is an industrial crop, with multiple benefits,” Acton was quoted as saying.
“Our farmers are battling with conventional crops. Cannabis grows the most biomass with the least water of all agricultural crops.”
He said dagga was safer than tobacco and alcohol.
